The short answer
Hand-wash cotton handloom sarees in cold water with mild detergent, dry them in shade, iron on medium heat with the border face down, and store them folded in muslin. Dry-clean pattu and silk sarees.
Washing
| Fabric | Wash | Dry |
|---|---|---|
| Mangalagiri cotton | Cold hand-wash, mild detergent | Shade, flat or on a line |
| Mangalagiri pattu | Dry-clean only | — |
| Kurta sets & dupattas | Cold hand or gentle machine wash | Shade, inside out |
Starching and ironing
Starch cotton lightly every few washes for the classic crisp finish. Iron on medium heat with the zari border face down, using a cotton cloth between the iron and the zari.
Storing
- Fold in muslin or cotton, never plastic.
- Avoid naphthalene directly on zari.
- Refold every few months to protect creases.
