Behind the loom
Our looms

In short
Our sarees are woven on traditional pit looms run by our own weaver families. Each saree takes about 30 days: yarn sorting and dyeing, warping, weaving the body and Nizam border, and a hand quality check.
The pit loom
A pit loom is set into the floor so the weaver sits level with the cloth and works the treadles with their feet. It keeps the warp tension even, which is what gives Mangalagiri cotton its tight, smooth weave.
From yarn to drape
- Yarn — fine cotton sorted by hand
- Dye — hanks dipped and aired in small batches
- Warp — thousands of ends threaded one at a time
- Weave — the plain body, then the zari Nizam border
- Finish — checked, folded and tagged by hand
